Your privacy

Last updated: 25 August 2026

This page explains what information Ames Carpentry & Joinery collects through this website and how it is used. The short version: the enquiry form sends us what you type, together with a few technical details about how you found us; our hosting keeps standard server logs; and Google's cookies are only set if you accept them through the cookie banner. Nothing here is sold or used for anyone else's marketing.

Who we are

Ames Carpentry & Joinery (“we”, “us”) runs this website to show our work and let you get in touch. If you have any question about your information, email us at info@amesjoinery.com.

What we collect

If you fill in the enquiry form, we receive the details you enter: typically your name, email address, phone number, rough location, the type of work, and anything you write in the message. The form also sends a few technical details alongside that (the page you enquired from, and if you arrived via a search engine or an advert, which one) so we can see where an enquiry came from. There’s no requirement to use the form: you’re welcome to reach us on WhatsApp or by phone instead.

Those technical details sit in your browser's session storage from the moment you arrive: the page you landed on, and any search or advert tags on the link that brought you. They stay on your device, they're gone when you close the tab, and they only ever reach us if you actually send an enquiry.

Separately, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (your IP address, browser type, and the pages requested) to keep the site running securely. We don't use those to identify you.

How we use it

We use your enquiry details to reply to you and discuss your project, and the technical details to see which pages and adverts bring in enquiries. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing.

We keep enquiry details for 12 months from our last contact with you, then delete them, unless we're working together by then or the law requires us to keep something longer.

How it’s handled

Ames Carpentry & Joinery decides what happens with your information. We are the ones responsible for it. SortedMateprovides the website's content and enquiry-form backend, and processes what you send purely on our behalf, to deliver it to us; enquiries are stored in the UK and EU. If you message us on WhatsApp, that conversation happens within WhatsApp and is subject to WhatsApp’s own privacy terms.

The site itself is hosted by Vercel, a US company, so its server logs may be processed in the United States. Those transfers are covered by the UK-approved safeguards Vercel certifies to (the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, and standard contractual clauses). If you consent to analytics or advertising cookies, that data is processed by Google LLC (US) under the same kind of safeguards.

The enquiry form is protected against spam by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks signals from your browser (including your IP address) to tell people and bots apart. It doesn't set cookies on this site.

Cookies & analytics

This site sets no optional cookies unless you accept them through the cookie banner. The banner offers two kinds:

  • Analytics (Google Analytics): the _ga and_ga_… cookies, kept for up to 2 years, so we can see which pages get visited and how people found us.
  • Advertising (Google Ads): the _gcl_aw and_gcl_dc cookies, kept for up to 3 months, so we can see which of our adverts lead to enquiries.

One first-party cookie (cc_cookie, kept for 6 months) remembers the choice you make in the banner. It's always set, because the banner can't work without it.

If you decline, Google sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. We still send Google limited, cookieless technical signals that it uses to model aggregate statistics (this is Google Consent Mode); they can't be used to identify you.

If you accept advertising cookies and then send an enquiry, the email address and phone number you typed are hashed (scrambled) in your browser before being shared with Google Ads, so Google can match the enquiry to the advert that brought you here without receiving your readable contact details.

You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer. Withdrawing consent also deletes any Google cookies already set.

Beyond that: the map on our areas page loads from Google Maps, which receives your IP address when it loads but sets no cookies here. Our fonts are self-hosted, and there are no other marketing, tracking or social media cookies on this site.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, limit what we do with it, object to how we're using it, or hand it over in a format another provider can read. Just email info@amesjoinery.comand we’ll sort it within a month, free of charge.

If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office atico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
